Interplayers presents a terrific line up of shows and events that reflect the freshness and excitement of the Silver Anniversary Season.  Here’s what’s happening:

  • Friday/Saturday, February 17th - 18th, 2:00, 8:00pm: Last chance to see the Readers Theatre treasure, Love Letters. Highly acclaimed in a 1999 production, Over the River and Through the Woods, John Oswald and Ann Russell Whiteman reunite on the Interplayers stage in this bittersweet play by A.R. Gurney. We are honored to announce that Miss Spokane will speak at 7:55pm, before Saturday night's performance, the final evening of her reign, in a special tribute to the Arts.

  • Sunday, February 19th, 2:00pm: Ballet Spokane, in conjunction with Interplayers, will perform Ballet for Books for Page Ahead, an organization whose purpose is to promote literacy by providing books for at-risk children and their families. Spokane’s First Lady, Jane Hession, will emcee the event, Stepping Out director Troy Nickerson will be narrating. Admission to the performance is a new children’s book per patron or $5.00. A silent auction as well as a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party will also be included at this event.

  • Friday, February 24th ,8:00pm: David Casteal performs the highly acclaimed Yorka book by Bryan Harnetiaux about the Lewis and Clark Expedition told through the eyes of York, William Clark's personal manservant and slave.  This is a benefit for Mr. Casteal’s African drum group, KuuUmba, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Family Outreach Center and Interplayers Theatre. Tickets for York are $25, $15 for seniors and students.
  • Monday, March 3rd, 7:00pm: Ann Russell Whiteman, representing Interplayers, performs an Irish folk tale, Nanny and Conn at the Cathedral in the Arts Sampler, along with Spokane Jazz Orchestra, Spokane Cd'A Opera and Spokane Youth Orchestra.
  • March 9th - 25th:  The remaining three shows for this season begin with Stepping Out, by Richard Harris, directed by Troy Nickerson, musical direction by Becky Moonitz and choreography by Kathie Doyle-Lipe and Greg Pschirrer.  This is a comedy about seven women and one man trying to conquer their inhibitions and an over- abundance of left feet in a tap dance class held in a church. An ex-professional chorine tries her hardest to teach the amateurs some dancing skills for an upcoming recital. The students are truly a hilarious, motley but loveable crew who finally triumph at their recital.
  • April 27th - May 20th: Our next production is Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor.  Max Prince is a TV comedian under pressure, the network wants to cut his show and his gag writers want to keep their jobs. Max just wants to keep sane. Each week, a team of neurotic, egocentric scriptwriters, equipped with their armory of gags and one-liners, battle against all odds to produce television’s funniest variety show.  But the real enemies, network bosses, rising production costs, low ratings and the specter of McCarthyism, are closing in.
  • June 1st - 24th: The final production of the season will be the adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic Of Mice and Men, a heart-wrenching journey into1930's Northern California, and a Nobel Prize winning, American classic. One of the most celebrated works in American literature, it is the tale of George and Lennie, two lonely migrant workers who dream of a place they can call their own. Their friendship infuses the men with hope for their future.  But, “the best laid plans o' mice and men” go awry when Lennie’s penchant for soft and cuddly things leads to tragedy, and George’s love and protection of his friend are tested to the limit.
