For Immediate Release

To Kill a Mockingbird, adapted by Christopher Sergel, takes the stage at Spokane interPLAYERS Theatre from January 12 to January 16, 2006.  This Readers Theatre performance will be directed by acclaimed Spokane actor/director, Ann Whiteman.  In Readers Theatre, actors read directly from scripts and are able to tell a story without props, costumes or sets.  Our most recent Readers Theatre production, Tuesdays with Morrie was very well received.  Entertaining and imaginative-- actors and audiences meet centerstage in Readers Theatre.

The Play and Cast
Set in a small southern town during the Depression, To Kill a Mockingbird follows three years in the life of eight year old Scout Finch, her brother Jem and their father Atticus.  To Kill a Mockingbird is an appealing depiction of childhood innocence, a scathing condemnation of racial prejudice, and an affirmation that human goodness can withstand the assault of evil.  To Kill a Mockingbird won the Pulitzer in 1961, has been translated into more than 30 million copies worldwide, and was voted best novel of the 20th century by librarians. This was Harper Lee's first and only published novel and won three Academy Awards.  The roles for this production include: Maudie-Ann Whiteman, Scout-Tami Grady, Jem-Terry Sticka, Atticus-Maynard Villers, Dill--Damon Mentzer, Calpurnia-Liz McAlpine, Stephanie Crawford & Mrs. Dubose-Susan Hardie, Judge Taylor-Jim McCurdy, Heck Tate & Link Deas-Kim Berg, Mr. Gilmer & Walter Cunningham-Chris Kennedy, Tom Robinson-David Casteal, Rev. Sykes & Clerk-David Denman Smith, Bob Ewell-Reed McCollum, Mayella Ewell-Tessa Gregory.
