The play preview starts at 8:00 Friday. The Fantasticks, the world’s longest running musical, takes the stage at Spokane interPLAYERS Theatre from December 1 through December 17, 2005. This enchanting musical will be directed by Roger Welch with musical direction is by Carol Miyamoto. The Play A timeless and charming fable, The Fantasticks, is a classic. It tells of the starry-eyed boy and girl next door who fall in love, yearn for the dangerous attractions of the world outside, then opt instead for fulfillment in each others arm. The Playwright and Composer The Fantasticks is the creation of Tom Jones (book and lyrics) and Harvey Schmidt (music). It is world's longest running show, the world's longest running musical and the longest running show in American theater history. It opened on May 3rd 1960 and ended its long run January 13th 2002 with a total of 17,162 performances. In addition to an Obie Award and the 1992 Special Tony Award for The Fantasticks, Jones and Schmidt were the recipients of the prestigious ASCAP-Richard Rogers Award for 1993. The Director and Cast Award-winning Artistic Director of Coeur D’Alene Summer Theatre, Roger Welch, has gathered a stunning group of actors, singers and musicians, including Jack Bannon, Christopher Bange and Damon Mentzer (the critically-acclaimed comic duo from The Mystery of Irma Vep), Troy Nickerson, Patrick Treadway, Louis Olsen, John Frazier III and introducing Theresa Kelly, a native of Great Falls, MT as Luisa. Wednesday, December 14 after the performance, a TALK BACK between the cast and audience to discuss the show will be led by Roger Welch. This is an outstanding opportunity for students. Darla DeCristoforo, Group Events Coordinator, would be delighted to arrange for a theatre night for schools. Tickets The Fantasticks begins December 1 and runs through December 17. Tickets can be purchased by calling 455-PLAY(7529) or by visiting the theatre Box Office at 174 S. Howard, Spokane 99201. The interPLAYERS Box Office is open Wednesday through Saturday noon to 5:00pm and one hour before Curtain. Ticket prices range from $10-$20. You can see plays on Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30pm, Friday and Saturday at 8:00pm and Saturday Matinee at 2:00pm. $10 Lunch Hour Hottix can be purchased between noon and 1 pm Wednesday or Thursday for that same night production.
